Program Description

Finding your way in a new job can be difficult, especially when you’re confronted with brand-new requirements to move up in rank. In this interactive webinar, librarians and archivists from Northern Arizona University’s Cline Library share their woes and wins advocating for early career professional support. Staff members from disparate departments banded together to collectively figure out how best to approach an overwhelming promotion process. Under the banner of the newly formalized Committee for New Academic Professionals (CNAPS), the presenters overcame these challenges by inspiring each other to lead change from the bottom up and create a path for mentoring and advocacy for current and future library workers. Participants will leave the session ready to be changemakers empowered to lead, regardless of their role or rank.

Rita Baladad is an e-resources librarian who currently works in Cline Library’s Collections and Discovery Services (CDS). While not new to librarianship, she joined Cline Library in 2021. Having worked at a one-person library and then for a library consortia, she believes in the power of networking and cooperative problem-solving.

Trace Glau is an Assistant Librarian at Northern Arizona University (NAU) Cline Library’s Research and Instruction Services (RIS) department and the liaison for the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) and the Honors College. She recently acquired her MILS after having taught at Coconino Community College for over ten years and working in acquisitions at Cline Library for 15 years as a classified staff member. Since being in her academic professional position, Trace has been enjoying working directly with professors and students helping them with research and assisting student to meet their educational goals.

Sam Meier (she/her/hers) serves as the Archivist for Discovery in Cline Library’s Special Collections and Archives (SCA). There, she works to make SCA’s archival materials available for research and use, overseeing the department’s archival processing program. She is the 2022-2023 designated spokesperson for the Council of New Academic Professionals (CNAPS).

Bridget Wipf is the librarian for the College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences at Northern Arizona University. Bridget is passionate about building community and making libraryland a better place for employees and patrons alike. She has spent much of her decade-long career helping to empower fellow library workers to create meaningful change from the ground up.
