Program Description
Arizona Talking Book Library, a federal and state program, offers a whole catalog of books for both adults and youth: in audio or braille, mailed out for free or instantly downloadable via an app. In addition to visual impairment/physical disabilities, anyone who has been diagnosed with a reading disability such as dyslexia, is eligible to receive our audiobook free service. Librarians and teachers can now be certifying authorities on applications for their patrons and students! Previously only medical professionals could be certifying authorities. Come and learn more about how school librarians can refer students to our service and how it can complement offerings at school libraries.
Learning outcomes:
- Anyone with a reading disability such as dyslexia is now eligible to received this free service.
- Librarians, teachers, therapists and other educational professionals can now sign off on application, thus making the referral process easier.
- Librarians at the Arizona Talking Book Library offer customized to service to each patron to meet their reading needs, including a dedicated a Youth Librarian and Reading Disabilities Librarian.
Presenter Bio
I am the Reading Disabilities Librarian/Reader Advisor at the Arizona Talking Book Library.I have worked for more than 15 years as a librarian in public, medical and academic capacities. I also have previous professional experience in business/marketing, social work and teaching that I bring to my work as a librarian.
